The Nuts and Bolts of Insurance for Construction Projects

  • Overview

Insurance policies are complex contracts, and it can be especially difficult to navigate all the different types of policies required for construction projects. This webinar presented by Lathrop GPM’s Insurance Recovery & Counseling Practice will provide an overview of the myriad of risks inherent in construction and a primer on the types of coverages needed to insure those risks. Participants will learn:

  • The different coverages needed to protect owners, contractors, design professionals, and others involved in construction projects;
  • The basics of CGL, builder’s risk, professional liability, environmental, and other critical types of insurance policies; and
  • The most common (and hotly litigated) coverage disputes involving those policies.
Presented by
Richard D. Rhyne
Kansas City, MO
Lathrop GPM LLP
Richard “Dick” Rhyne is a Charter Fellow in the Construction Lawyers Society of America and has more than 40 years of experience representing clients in complex commercial law and business litigation matters in state and federal courts around the country and in arbitrations. He has built upon that experience and now focuses a large portion of his practice on alternative dispute resolution, where he has participated in over 150 arbitrations as either counsel or arbitrator and over 150 mediations as mediator. Dick is still deeply entrenched in the construction industry, where he regularly represents owners, general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers in matters involving a wide variety of complex construction, design and insurance coverage issues.

Alexander Brown
Kansas City, MO
Lathrop GPM LLP
Alexander Brown has litigated dozens of insurance coverage cases across the country on behalf of some of the largest corporations in the world, in federal and state trial and appellate courts, where hundreds of millions of dollars have been in dispute. Alex represents several Fortune 500 companies in high-stake lawsuits. He has extensive experience in litigating complicated “long-tail” liability claims including environmental contamination and asbestos, silica, and chemical exposure cases. Alex is also one of the leaders of Lathrop GPM’s Civil Rights Insurance Recovery practice which litigates §1983 civil rights claims on behalf of exonerees who were wrongfully imprisoned.
